The Credit Card Cure Co-op provides tons of tools to help you settle your credit card debts…including a list of frequently asked questions and an extensive glossary of terms.
I hope these “5 terms for today”, January 12th help you in some small way!
Apportionment: Adjustment of income, expenses, or carrying charges on real estate,
usually computed to the date of closing of title so seller pays all expenses to that date
and buyer assumes all expenses after that.
Application Fee: For credit cards, this is a one-time fee required when applying. The fee is typically added to the initial balance due on the card.
Appraisal: The process in which a licensed or authorized person gives an estimate of
property value.
Appreciation: The difference between the increased value of the property and the original
value.
Appurtenance: Something outside of a property but belonging to the land and adding to
its greater enjoyment, such as a right-of-way, barn, or dwelling.
Arbitration: A process where disputes are settled by referring them to a fair and neutral
third party (arbitrator). The disputing parties agree in advance to agree with the
decision of the arbitrator. There is a hearing where both parties have an opportunity to
be heard, after which the arbitrator makes a decision.
